In early 2008, I was lucky enough to receive a brief to write a cover article for Computer Arts magazine entitled The Art of Art Direction. The idea was to speak to ten creative directors/art directors and, essentially, to find out about their career paths, their working days and any advice for CA readers they might be able to offer.

Now and then working from home can become a trifle hairy in that you sit in your flat alone for vast tracts of time, wearing large fluffy slippers, drinking a little bit too much tea or coffee and talking out loud to yourself. The outside world becomes a series of email back-and-forths, MSN chimes, Facebook messages and telephone calls. This article, however, enabled me to get out of the house on several occasions and head on into some of London’s foremost creative companies all over town. It’s always enjoyable and often times quite inspiring to meet the minds in question, rather than merely telephoning them.

Finding ten creative leads willing to talk in the time permitted wasn’t the smoothest exercise, but we got there in the end. You can read Part One of the article Here. Part Two is available Here.
